How it works

From one photo to your pet on everything

Have one good photo of your dog or cat? That’s all you need to start. On the product page you pick a product, choose your size and a background, and upload your pet’s photo. Our team crops it and places it on the design, checks that it will print well, prints it to order and ships it to your US address. Below: which photos print best, and what happens if yours can’t.

  • One photo per pet
  • A person checks every photo
  • Ships to US addresses

How does it work? Three steps.

Pick a product and a color, upload one clear photo of your pet, and we print it to order. The video shows each step, including how the photos change when you pick a color.

How it works in three steps: pick your product and color, upload your pet's photo, and we print it to order.

Six steps, three of them ours

How does ordering a custom pet item work?

You do the first three steps on the product page, and our team does the rest, whether it’s pajama pants, a blanket or a pair of socks.

Step 1

Step 1: pick pet face print pajama pants, a short set or the satin set, shown beside a golden retriever

Pick your product

Choose pet face pajama pants, a short pajama set, the satin set, a blanket or socks. The pet on a listing is only an example: yours takes its place.

Step 2

Step 2: choose your size and a background color for the pet face print, white, pink, plaid or paw pattern

Choose your size and a background

Set the options: cut and size for pajamas, size for blankets, sock size by sock measurement. Then pick a background color where the design offers one. Some blankets also take a pet name of up to 12 characters.

Step 3

Step 3: woman holds up a clear phone photo of her golden retriever to upload for the pet face print

Upload a clear photo of your dog or cat

Every personalized product needs a photo, one per pet. Use the original file from your phone: sharp, well lit, the whole head in frame. The photo tips below show what works.

Step 4

Our team crops the dog face from the phone photo and places the pet face print on the pajama design

We crop it and place it on the design

You don’t need to edit anything. On pet face designs, your pet’s head is cut out and repeated across the item. On photo designs, your whole picture is printed inside a frame. We print your actual photo: it isn’t redrawn or illustrated.

Step 5

Photo check: a dark, blurry dog photo is flagged and a clear one approved before the pet face print

We check your photo before we print

A person looks at every photo. If yours is too blurry, dark or low-resolution to print well, we email you before production, and your order waits for your reply.

Step 6

We print it to order and ship it

Production starts after you order and takes 1–5 business days depending on the item; orders with two or more items take 1 extra business day. Pajama pants, short sets, socks and blankets are printed in the USA. US shipping takes 2–11 business days, holiday periods can add 5–15, and Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico and similar areas can take up to 40–45. See shipping and production times.

Custom items can’t be exchanged for a different size, so check the size guide before you order clothing or socks.

Face designs and photo designs

How is your pet’s photo used on each product?

Pet face designs print your pet’s head small and many times over. Photo designs print one whole picture, so the background stays in. Find your product to see what matters most in the photo you pick.

Product How your photo is printed What matters most in the photo
Pet face pajama pants, short pajama sets and the satin set Your pet’s head, cut out and repeated across the fabric Sharp eyes and nose, the whole head in frame, a clear edge between your pet and the background
Pet face socks A small cut-out head repeated all over both socks A close, front-facing shot with both eyes visible
Pet face blanket Cut-out heads repeated across one side of the blanket A clear, well-lit face; a busy background is fine
Pet photo blanket and cat photo blanket Your whole photo, background kept, in a frame on one side The full-size original, sharp all over, in the same shape as the blanket you pick
Pet memorial blanket Your photo in an oval frame with your pet’s name and, if you add them, their years The sharpest photo you have where the face is clearly visible
Pet photo socks Your whole photo in a small framed panel on the outer side of each leg Your pet filling most of the frame, so they read clearly at a small size

Photo checklist

What makes a good pet photo for printing?

Your print can only be as sharp as the photo you upload. Run through this first.

Our pet photo guide shows the common problems and how to fix each one.

  • Clear and in focus

Zoom in on the eyes and nose. Fur and whiskers should look crisp, not soft or smeared.

  • Well lit and front-facing

Soft daylight on the face, your pet looking toward the camera with both eyes open. Avoid a dim room, a harsh flash or a bright window behind them.

  • The whole head, up close

Both ears, the crown and the chin inside the picture. On face designs, an ear that’s cut off stays cut off. A pet shot from across the room has too little detail.

  • Nothing on the face, no filters

No hands, toys, leashes or another pet over the head. Skip stickers, text overlays, beauty filters and strong color effects.

  • The original file

Upload the file your phone saved, not a screenshot or a copy re-saved from a messaging app or social media. Use a photo you took, or one its owner has said you can use.

No special gear

How do you take a better pet photo with your phone?

Nothing in your camera roll passes the checklist? A new photo takes a few minutes. For more, see how to photograph pets indoors.

  1. 1

    Find soft light

Sit your pet facing a window, or go outside into open shade. Midday sun makes pets squint and casts hard shadows.

  2. 2

    Shoot from their height

Crouch until your phone is level with your pet’s eyes, so the muzzle isn’t squashed and the chin shows.

  3. 3

    Walk closer rather than zooming

Zooming throws away detail. Get near enough that the head fills most of the screen, with a small gap around the ears.

  4. 4

Focus on the eyes and get their attention

Tap the eyes on the screen and brace the phone. Hold a treat or toy right above the phone, or say their name.

  5. 5

Shoot a burst, skip portrait mode

Keep the crispest shot of a wriggly pet. Portrait mode can blur the outline of the ears, and filters change fur color.

Special cases

Does a blanket need a different photo than socks or pajamas?

Often, yes. Face designs print small and many times; a photo blanket enlarges one picture up to 60 x 80 inches.

Pajamas and socks

Small faces don’t need a huge file, but they do need sharp eyes and a clean outline, because at that size soft focus turns the eyes into dark smudges. A black dog on a dark couch, or a white cat against a pale wall, makes the outline harder to cut out cleanly.

Photo blankets

The grain of a dim indoor shot and the blockiness of a compressed copy get bigger with the print. Send the full-size original and match its shape to the blanket: an upright phone shot suits a portrait blanket, a wide shot of your pet stretched out suits a landscape one.

Two pets, three pets

What if you have more than one pet?

Each personalized item takes one photo per pet. Choose the number of pets (up to 5) in the options, and an upload box appears for each one. Our team crops each face from its photo.

  • One pet per photo

Each face sharp, well lit and not covered.

  • Similar light

Photos taken in similar light give a matching look when several pets share one design.

Can you use an old photo or a photo of a pet who has passed?

Yes. Choose the sharpest one where your pet’s eyes are visible. Scan paper prints, or shoot them from directly above near a window: a glossy print under a lamp picks up glare. Photos from social media or chats are usually compressed copies, so check your cloud backup or an old device for the original. A face design, where the face prints small, often suits an older photo better than a photo blanket. Our pet memorial gifts include a blanket with space for your pet’s name and years.

What happens if my photo can’t print well?

If your photo is too blurry, dark or low-resolution to print well, we email you before production, and your order waits for your reply. You can send a different photo, or tell us to go ahead with the one you uploaded. A flagged photo printed at your request isn’t covered as a misprint; our returns and remake policy has the details.

Ordering as a gift

Ordering a gift: who is it for, and what gets in the way?

A pajama gift, a blanket or a pair of socks all follow the same six steps. What changes is the snag each buyer runs into.

Dog moms and cat moms. Store-bought “mom” gifts show a stranger’s dog. Here step 3 is her own photo, so the face on the pajamas is the one that greets her at the door.

Dog dads and cat dads. Hard to buy for, and you don’t know his size? Pet face socks come in three sizes picked by sock measurement, so there’s no shirt size to guess.

Cat lovers. A cat who won’t sit still or look at the lens? A small turn of the head is fine if both eyes and the nose show, and in step 5 a real person checks the photo before anything prints.

Friends of a pet lover. Keeping the surprise is the tricky part. Ask someone in their home for the original photo, then enter your friend’s US address at checkout.

Families. A set where one adult wears a different print looks mismatched in photos. Upload the same photo on each product page; women’s and men’s cuts print from the same file, and every adult picks a size.

Couples. Anniversary ideas running thin and starting to feel the same? Order two pairs of pajama pants, one per cut, and upload the photo of your shared dog or cat to each.

Grandparents. They miss the grand-dog between visits and live far from it. Ship a blanket straight to their US address; a blanket can carry the pet’s name as well.

A brand-new puppy or kitten. They grow up in a blink, and nothing personal from those first months exists yet. Pick a photo from the first weeks, upload it, and we print it to order as a keepsake.

Christmas and birthday shoppers. A last-minute order is the stress point, because production only starts after you order. Order early for the holidays and check the shipping page for each style.

Ordering a sympathy gift. You may worry about asking for a photo. A partner or relative can send the original, and nothing prints until a person has looked at it.

Homes with dogs and cats. Put only the dog on it and the cat feels left out, or so the glare suggests. Choose the number of pets and an upload box appears for each one, so everyone fits on the same piece.

Shopping for yourself. No occasion, and it feels a bit awkward? Skip the excuse: your pet, your pajamas, ordered in the same six steps as any gift.

Ordering for the family? Mix any styles and sizes: one for you, one for them. Your cart always shows the final price.

Quick answers

How it works: common questions

Will I see a proof before my item is printed?

Not on every order. Our team places your photo on the design, and if the photo is too blurry, dark or low-resolution to print well, we email you before production so you can decide what to do.

Is my pet’s photo hand-drawn or turned into a cartoon?

No. We print the photo you upload. It is cropped and placed on the design, but not redrawn, painted or illustrated.

Will a phone photo print well?

Usually, yes, if it’s sharp and shot in good light. Send the original file instead of a screenshot or a forwarded copy, since both are smaller and more compressed.

What if my pet won’t look at the camera?

A small turn of the head is fine if you can clearly see both eyes and the nose. Side profiles and shots from behind don’t show a full face, so they won’t print as one.

Can one photo go on several items?

Yes, just upload it on each product page. A photo that looks fine on socks or pajamas may still be too small for a large photo blanket, so start with your sharpest original.

Why do the printed colors look softer than on my screen?

Screens show color with light and fabric shows it with ink, so very bright shades print a little softer. A small shift in shade is normal; colors that are clearly off compared with your photo count as a misprint, and we reprint or refund.

Is the photo printed on both sides of the blanket?

No. All of our blankets, fleece, sherpa and minky, have a single-sided print. On the sherpa blankets, the print is on the fleece front and the back is sherpa fleece.
